Not only is the 2010 Ford Taurus enjoying great customer reaction to its sophisticated safety technology, but this model continues to win kudos and awards.  Most recently the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recognized Taurus with its top 5-star crash rating.

Previous recognition for the Ford flagship sedan included the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) naming the Taurus as a top safety pick.  That makes Ford a leader in 5-star ratings, now named more than any other auto manufacturer.

“The new Taurus is the Ford safety flagship with top safety ratings and advanced crash-protection and crash-avoidance technologies that you may not find in luxury vehicles that cost twice as much,” said Sue Cischke, group vice president for Ford Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering. “A stiffer body structure and new crash-avoidance technologies make the Taurus even safer.”

One of the many exciting safety features offered with the 2010 Taurus is the collision warning technology that is radar based, a segment first.  Working in conjunction with Adaptive Cruise Control, this system features radar sensors that are able to identify other moving vehicles driving out front.  When slow moving traffic is encountered, both a visual and audible warning is given to alert the driver.

The popularity of this feature is already quite evident with 1/3 of the Taurus buyers selecting the cruise control warning option.

The Taurus is in a very competitive full-size segment that includes Toyota Avalon, Chevrolet Impala and the Buick LaCrosse.  Even so, it is experiencing a double digit sales increase in year to year growth.

“What’s remarkable is that more than 90 percent of Taurus customers are ordering the higher-end series or additional technologies such as the fuel-efficient EcoBoost™ engine and Ford’s advanced safety features,” said Hsu. “The car is attracting younger, more diverse and affluent customers than it has in the past.”

Because of the quick success of the 2010 Taurus, other vehicles in this brand will soon be offering the same exciting safety technology.  And the used Ford of the future will deliver exciting options for the pre owned buyer.
