HPI, a vehicle researcher in the UK, has released details of a study regarding what color car has the best resale value. This is very important in today’s economic climate because you don’t want to

  • Black – classic, timeless color that suits all types of vehicle.
  • Silver – second only to black, but there are too many cars around in the market in this color. Champagne is a good alternative on premium models.
  • Blues – metallic is a must, with bright hues working well on sporty/Gti models but are which not good news on SUVs, hatchbacks and sedans, where medium to dark shades work better. Solid blues are okay on small hatch and sports models, but dark blue is a real no-no.
  • Reds – Solid red is fine on small hatches and sports/Gti models, but go for metallics on sedans and SUVs.
  • White – hailed as the new silver, but not nearly as universal. Suits sporty models and coupes, but has limited appeal on larger models.
  • Greens – go for brighter shades on small hatchbacks and sporty/Gti models, but steer clear on everything else.
  • Yellows, purples and the rest – experiment at your own risk.

You can use this research as a guide, but most color choices are driven by preference and passion rather than for investment purposes. Stop by your Ford Dealer to see what new shades are on deck. Value, performance and service are other and maybe more important reasons to choose a Ford from a reputable dealer.
