cpoTaking your vehicle to a mechanic for the first time can be a daunting task. If you’re new to an area or never had to take your car in for repairs, it can also be an intimidating experience. Most people are afraid that mechanics are scammers and this only adds to the already unpleasant experience. Earl Stewart is the owner of a dealership and he offers several things to consider when taking your vehicle in for repairs. Here are some points that he makes.

1. Go to a dealer franchise mechanic
Instead of risking one of your most prized possessions with the mechanic on the corner, take your car to a dealer’s garage. For instance, if you bought a certified Ford, take it to the service center of your local Ford dealer. The mechanics have more experience with that particular brand and the company trains them when new technology arrives. With the ever-increasing number of computerized components and other gadgets, taking your car back to the company that made it is always your best and safest option.

2. Find the dealer you are comfortable with
You don’t need to take your car back to the place where you bought it when it needs repairs. If you didn’t feel comfortable doing business with their staff or if it’s simply not the most convenient location for you, find one you like better. This will lessen the amount of intimidation you feel when getting repairs.

3. Do research on local dealers
With the Internet, you can find out just about anything on any business in your area. Your local Better Business Bureau website is an ideal way to find out the best auto service areas in your town. You can also find message boards and other website that allow previous customers to discuss their pleasant or unpleasant experiences to help you make your decision.

These are three considerations to keep in mind when your car needs preventative maintenance or any other types of repairs. Come back tomorrow for more service repair tips.
