It wasn’t too long ago when the Ford Motor Company announced that it was going to delay the launch of the 2009 F150 due to gas prices and falling sales. In August alone, those sales fell by about 25 percent. Now that the summer months are coming to an end, though, the sales figures are starting to plateau. The lowering gas prices and incentives from Ford dealers are also helping sales. As such, Ford plans to start making and delivering the 2009 F150 to Ford Mercury dealers soon.

More than 2,000 workers were told to report to the Dearborn Truck Plant on September 22 to begin making these popular pickup trucks. Many employees have already returned from lengthy layoffs to inspect the factory to make sure it is going to be as efficient as possible. Some hourly workers have even been teaching a number of salaried workers the process of building an F150 because it’s “important for supervisors to know how to build the truck,” according to a UAW representative.

The Ford Motor Company expects to produce and sell about two million units each year. “There’s still a pickup truck market out there,” said Ford’s truck marketing manager Doug Scott.
