Have you ever thought about donating your certified Ford to serve a greater cause? That’s exactly what the Matthew House lets you do.
The Fergus Falls-based Matthew House organization helps people who are trying to get a fresh start after struggling with substance abuse. The organization operates as a home for residents to help them get back on their feet and start new lives.
The organization’s current fundraiser involves asking people to donate their used vehicles so they can sell them. But Matthew House is working in conjunction with Advanced Auto Care. When somebody drops off a used vehicle, the mechanics at AAC check the vehicle over to ensure that it’s drivable for the new owner. And because it’s a donation of time and services, Matthew House is able to reap the benefits.
The charitable organization has a year-long program for helping people get back on their feet. They have found this to be the most effective way to treat individuals suffering from a history of substance abuse. Starting a new life isn’t something that can happen overnight, especially as some clients also suffer from mental illnesses and behavioral issues.
Matthew House holds up to six male clients at a given time. It requires a full-time staff around the clock. State and county governments provide funding, but nearly 50 percent of the revenue comes from private contributions. Fundraising activities just allow the staff to do more things to help clients integrate themselves back into society more effectively.
